To Nel Jansen

'Beach Hut' by Anita Davies

This is my reply to Nel.

On reading the comments on previous postcard entries I noticed this comment from Nel:

"This is so sweet and charming, I wanna go there. I think it's my favorite postcard to date!"

Nel was referring to this postcard I made for Deni from my imagination. So, armed with a rough idea of Nel's taste I set about making another beach scene from imagination and I ended up here. None of it really makes alot of sense, I have no idea where the stilts came from or why it appears to be stranded in the middle of some vast ocean. However, if I could just work out how to get inside, I'd love to take my art materials on holiday there some day.

Hope you like it Nel.

Lovely job on this! It reminds me of an area here on Long Island where there are beach huts sitting by themselves on stilts in the middle of the bay. Some are on tiny little islands, but some aren't. They were built long ago and the families have maintained them for years. Imagine the views!

In early '60's my family visited Florida. We were warned a storm was coming in, we would be safe but to expect the waves to come in 200 feet leaving us on stilts untill low tide the next morning. The storm was bigger than expected. It was very weird to have the surge of water and waves all around. Spent most of the night observing the conditions with slight motion sickness. They came by boat to get us at checkout the next morning. Wonder if the motel on stilts is still there? Thanks for the memory.

This is lovely....the tide is obvoiusly coming or going...and there's a long cantilevered staricase that retracts up into the floor of the deck to enter and leave when the tide's out...the family has a boat as well...but they're off in it fishing right now....deni...;)

MY Beach Hut! I love it! Thanks, Anita. Your are welcome to visit, with art supplies, anytime! We'll pull up the stairs, and paint, and drink tea. Put on some music, get out the brushes...

Anita, the water looks very interesting. On my computer screen, it looks a little rough, perhaps turbulent. Then there is the hut - calm and sturdy in the midst of the moving water. You have offered Nel a place of calm and quiet in the midst of whatever else is going on around her!

Hi Anita: Just wanted to comment that I got my postcard, and it is even more charming in person than on the screen. Lovely colors, my first real estate! What did you use, is it watercolors? And a VERY fine ink pen? Thanks again. Nel

So glad it arrived safe Nel, thanks for letting me know.
Yes, it's watercolour and a 0.1 pigment liner.
